buddha's teachings

while working, i came across the following teachings of buddha, which i thought i'd share:

“However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do if you do not act upon them?”

“We are what we think… What we think, we become.”

“I never see what has been done; I only see what remains to be done.”

“Pay no attention to the faults of others, things done or left undone by others. Consider only what by oneself is done or left undone.”

“Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others… No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”

“Each morning we are born again, what we do today is what matters most.”

Thanks for sharing. "What we think, we become"...hmm, that one is really making me think. It's inspiring and maybe a little scary? I'll be sure to be thinking good thoughts...

@alicia, kristin and c: glad you enjoyed the thoughts. they inspired and motivated me, and i wanted to share so they could do the same for others. thank you for letting me know that you were touched :)

alicia: isn't it scary how much power our own thoughts have over our lives and actions? in principle, it is so simple to think good stuff.. i think it's totally related to buddha's principles regarding focusing on yourself, not on others. i know that i get into trouble because i spend too much thinking how someone else didn't do something, wronged me, etc. i should spend that time thinking of all the things i could've done better instead!!!

This is a really great post. I'm here from ICLW.

Look forward to reading more of your blog in the future- at present 'Waiting for closure' caught my eye as a post title- if I'm interpreting it correctly, we're at the same juncture, although probably for different reasons.

Best wishes,

Casey
